Ubiquitous Element Catalysis

Enzyme catalyze organic transformations with high efficiently and selectivity. The excellent performance of enzymatic system is derived from the use of hydrophobic reaction field generated by self-assembly of protein, lipid, and so on. If an artificial catalytic system having reaction field like the enzymatic system, the artificial system would realize good catalytic performance.

We developed self-assembled heterogeneous catalysts generated from the reaction of soluble polymers having coordination sites with metal salts. The catalysts promoted a variety of reaction efficiently. In some cases, turnover numbers reached over 1,000,000.
