Dr. Donglin Jiang has been widely recognized as a distinguished scientist and a prominent leader in the field of two-dimensional Polymers, covalent organic frameworks (COFs), and conjugated microporous polymers (CMPs).  His research is focused on the design, synthesis, functional exploration, and application of two-dimensional polymers, COFs, and CMPs with a wide range of building blocks covering simple arenes to large macrocycles.  In particular, he has made significant contributions to the development of synthetic methods for two-dimensional polymers and COFs, which are a class of crystalline organic porous polymers allowing atomic precision integration of building blocks into two- and three-dimensional periodicities.  As a breakthrough in functional exploration, he has elucidated the periodically structured π columns in COFs for high rate carrier transports, including hole, electron, and ambipolar conducting COFs.  Dr. Jiang has developed donor–acceptor COFs with periodic, segregated, bicontinuous donor–acceptor arrays, which maximize the donor and acceptor interface, allow ultrafast photoinduced electron transfer, long-lived charge separation, and solar energy conversion.  Dr. Jiang has pioneered the synthesis and functional explorations of CMPs, which are a class of amorphous organic porous polymers that combine extended π conjugation and high porosity.  Functions of CMPs including light-harvesting antennae, light-emitting materials, catalytic systems, supercapacitive ennery storage, and superabsorption have been explored in this group.

In 2006, Dr. Jiang received the Young Scientist Award, one of the most prestigious prizes for academic achievement in Japan. He is also a recipient of Wiley award, the Society of Polymer Science, Japan (SPSJ). Dr. Jiang has co-authored about one hundred peer-reviewed journal papers.
